The return of group exercise

The corona period has been a challenging time for group exercise and group exercise suffered by far the most from coronary limitations compared to other forms of exercise. The worst seems to be finally behind us (or so we hope) and group exercise enthusiasts have started to return to classes.

More than two years of restrictions have left their mark, and the range of hours is even narrower than before the interest rate. But group exercise has been much needed and those who have taken a long break are now back with enthusiasm. This has been reflected in the classes and many of the prime time classes have been so full that not even the regulars have been able to fit in.

The group exercise instructors and leaders have welcomed both new and returning exercisers and have increased the number of classes according to the wishes of the clients. "At the beginning of the autumn, many group exercise classes were already fully booked a week before the class and the last people who wanted to join came to book their place as soon as the on-site registration opened," says Kati Hilakivi, centre manager.

"There would have been twice as many people interested, so we added another indoor cycling session on Monday evening, among other things. Now both Monday indoor cycling sessions are full every week and new visitors continue to come. Half of the classes on the group exercise schedule are full each week, so the return of exercisers to classes is really showing! We will continue to add new classes as needed as classes fill up. Fortunately, there are still plenty of classes with space available. New group exercisers are definitely welcome!"

Group exercise is addictive and motivating

Group exercise is still an important form of exercise for many people and, in the absence of group exercise, finding the right form of exercise for you can be challenging. Group exercise instructor Taru Häyrinen knows why group exercise is such an important hobby for many people. The encouragement of others and doing things together is encouraging and motivates you to keep going, even if you might otherwise have stopped doing them on your own."

"In addition, the group exercise schedule brings regularity to exercise. Certain hours of the week can be dedicated to group exercise, making it easier to stick to the habit. Many people see group exercise as an important time in their lives, even as the highlight of the week or a mental break, when they can focus on their own well-being. You never get bored of group exercise, because you can choose from a range of classes to suit your mood, your life situation and your goals."

Group exercise can take up to two years to recover from coronary heart disease. If there are no further restrictions, the number of classes and attendance could be back to where it was this year. So there is a good chance that group sport will return to its former glory very soon! But we will still need newcomers for a long time to come.

Virtual lessons as an alternative

Group exercise is bound to a schedule, and not all times are suitable for everyone. Fortunately, virtual classes have become an established part of group exercise and are a great alternative to regular group exercise. Virtual classes allow more people to take part in group exercise classes, because you can do it when you want. In addition, the online service, which became popular during the korona period, makes it possible to take advantage of virtual classes wherever you are.
