A new feature for LadyLine this autumn is online coaching. An online personal trainer will explain why you should join an online coaching programme and what it can offer you.
Why choose online coaching?
The advantage of online coaching is that it may be cheaper than, for example, individual or small group coaching. Online coaching is also flexible and can fit into many people's daily lives, as there are no predetermined appointments and you can fit the training and other activities into your own life. Nowadays, not all of us go on that 8-16 rhythm, but sometimes you have to manage a day's training early in the morning, late in the evening or even in the middle of the night, for example.
These days there are many different types of online training - so probably something for everyone! "For example, you can find online coaching for muscle mass, strength development, weight loss and nutrition from a variety of sources. The popularity of online coaching has grown in recent years and will certainly continue to do so, thanks to the wide range of options available.
Who is online coaching suitable for?
When you find an online coaching course that matches your needs and goals, it's sure to suit most of us! If we're talking about coaching that focuses purely on fitness training, online coaching is a great way to get coaching and help, especially for those who are a little more advanced.
However, for beginners, I recommend first getting a qualified personal trainer for individual or small group training, so that at least the basic principles of gym training are familiarised. It is possible that many movements require the "eye" and guidance of an outsider, so for the complete beginner, many online coaching sessions may not be suitable.
What if some movements don't suit me?
Good online trainings have certainly taken this into account. For example, if you had to do a cross-country throw, the alternative would be to do a) a straight bar b) a trap bar or c) a handle bar. You can then choose the one that works best for you.
There are quite a few different variations in the movement, so you're sure to find the right one for you!
Many coaching centres also offer the possibility of coach support during the trip, so it's worth asking via a dedicated chat or forum.
What if I don't have time to do all the training?
Life is unexpected, you never know what the day will bring. It could be that due to some coincidence your workout will be missed. Let's say, for example, that your child gets a cold and you have to stay home with him for several days. In training sessions, there is an option to do almost the same kind of training at home with small equipment, such as resistance bands or other small equipment.
On the other hand, you shouldn't worry too much about it if you don't have time to do all the training. Again, good online coaching certainly takes this into account at some level. There could be, for example, 2 x "mandatory" workouts during the week and then, if time and energy is available, 1-2 x optional workouts. I think we all have enough time for those two mandatory workouts, as long as we prioritise some time for ourselves and for developing and maintaining our health.
How important is it to engage in online coaching?
It's up to you to decide, but if you want to make progress, you should be committed to the coaching at a sufficient level. It may not be necessary to do all the training, especially if it is voluntary, but you should do at least two quality gym sessions, for example, so that you can at least theoretically expect to make progress.
What is online coaching?
At LadyLine, the new online coaching includes a training programme and home workouts, as well as a nutrition programme. Some online coaching sessions may also include support from a coach and/or other trainers. The training programmes usually come with a good video and image bank with instructions on how to perform the movements. The online coaching planner will also make sure that you understand the "training system" that they have developed, which you will then follow as the coaching progresses.
The nutritional programmes will certainly depend on the nature of the training. The nutrition side can be really flexible, just giving clear guidelines on the nutrition that supports the training. The other extreme could then be a really strict diet, where everything is weighed and counted. Especially for the latter, you should think about whether it's really right for you.
The support of other trainers can be crucial for some participants, because they want to be part of a group. It creates a culture of togetherness and a sense of belonging that helps to keep you motivated during training.
In some coaching sessions, it is also possible to ask the coach(es) questions, for example via a separate chat or forum.
